Hello, keyboard googler. My name is Susan, and I am in my fifties, 5-plus years alcohol-free, professionally accomplished (whatever that means), with a fabulous husband and wonderful sons. I am living life on the other side of the wine glass.
I had tried Dry January, Dry November, Dry Monday, Dry Tuesday, not drinking on school nights, only drinking on high days and holidays, and only on days beginning with 'S'. But I never quite cracked this moderation lark. I enrolled in 'The Sober School,' and the rest is history. No road crash, no rock bottom, no skid row—yet I struggled.
I now find myself part of a modern, progressive recovery movement that works to redefine our attitude toward drinking and to smash the myths surrounding alcohol. I founded this platform in February 2019.
My date of freedom is January 6, 2019.
Enrolling in an online class to redefine my relationship with alcohol led me to an incredible group of honest, fearless women who shared their truths without hesitation.
Over six weeks, we dismantled the myths and delved into the science, determined to break free from the daily ritual of worshiping wine. In February 2019, I founded Sassy Sober Sisters to support women navigating early sobriety. Through WhatsApp groups, daily emails, and ZOOM calls, we built a strong community of support and friendship.
We showed up in our lives, took ownership, and reclaimed our power, rejecting the false notion that wine equals reward. Parenting without wine? Absolutely! We now live happier, fuller lives, enjoying every moment on the other side of the wine glass.
i am happy that I jumped off the cliff and started a community.
